How to Choose the Right Dumpster Size for Your Project

One of the most common questions we get is “what size dumpster do I need?” It’s a fair question — order too small and you’re paying for a second haul. Order too big and you’re paying for space you didn’t use. Here’s how to get it right the first time.

Start With the Project, Not the Container

The easiest way to pick the right size is to think about what you’re throwing away, not how big the box is. A bathroom remodel produces a different kind of waste than a roof tear-off, and volume isn’t the only factor — weight matters too.

Every one of our dumpsters comes with an included tonnage allowance. Go over that, and you’ll pay $80 per additional ton. So a small container full of concrete could cost more in overages than a larger container full of drywall and lumber.

The Size Breakdown

10-Yard Bin ($360) — Our smallest container, built for long-term construction projects and custom home builds. At 8 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 feet high, it fits in tight spaces and is ideal for ongoing jobs where debris accumulates slowly. Great for interior renovations, kitchen and bath remodels, and extended landscaping work.

15-Yard ($400) — The entry point for most residential projects. Handles single-room renovations, garage cleanouts, and moderate landscaping jobs. You get 1.5 tons of included weight and a 14-day rental period.

18-Yard ($430) — Our most popular size for a reason. It’s the sweet spot between capacity and driveway footprint. Handles mid-size renovations, roofing debris, and property cleanouts without dominating your yard. 1.8 tons included.

20-Yard ($460) — When you need a bit more room than the 18 but don’t want to jump to a full commercial size. Two tons included. Ideal for large home renovations and mixed-debris jobs.

25-Yard ($495) — Stepping into commercial territory. At 22 feet long and 5 feet high, this handles major renovations, multi-room gut jobs, and small commercial cleanouts. 2.5 tons included.

30-Yard ($525) — Built for large-scale cleanouts and commercial construction. Three tons of included weight makes this a workhorse for property managers, general contractors, and whole-house demolitions.

40-Yard ($650) — The big one. Four tons included, 8 feet tall, and 22 feet long. This is for major construction sites, commercial demolitions, and industrial-scale debris removal. If you’re generating serious volume, this is your container.
