What Can and Can't Go in a Dumpster Rental

You’d be surprised how often we get asked “can I put this in the dumpster?” The short answer is that we accept most household, construction, and yard debris. But there are a few things that can’t go in — either because of landfill regulations, safety concerns, or environmental laws. Here’s the full breakdown.

What We Take

Construction and Demolition Debris — This is the bread and butter of dumpster rentals. Drywall, lumber, plywood, roofing shingles, siding, brick, block, tile, carpet, flooring, insulation, and general renovation debris all go in without issue. If you’re gutting a room or tearing down a structure, this is what the container is built for.

Metal and Scrap — Steel, aluminum, copper, iron, and mixed metals are all accepted. We recycle metals, so separating them from general debris is helpful but not required.

Appliances — Refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and water heaters are all accepted. One note: appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, freezers, some AC units) require a recovery fee. The refrigerant has to be professionally extracted before disposal — it’s an EPA requirement.

Furniture — Couches, mattresses, dressers, tables, chairs, shelving, desks — all of it goes in the dumpster. Break down large pieces when you can to maximize your space.

Yard Waste — Branches, brush, sod, dirt, gravel, stumps, and landscaping debris are all accepted. If you’re clearing a property or doing a major landscaping overhaul, a dumpster is far more efficient than bags and trips to the landfill.

Concrete — We accept concrete, but it’s heavy. A small amount mixed with general debris is fine. If your project is primarily concrete removal, let us know when you book so we can recommend the right container and set weight expectations.

Hot Tubs — Yes, we haul hot tubs. Cut it into manageable pieces if you can, or call us about our grapple truck service and we’ll handle the demo and loading for you.

General Trash and Debris — Household junk, boxes, bags, miscellaneous clutter — if it’s not on the restricted list below, it goes in.

What We Can’t Accept

Residential and Food Waste — Regular household garbage, food scraps, and kitchen waste cannot go in a roll-off dumpster. These materials belong in your regular curbside trash collection.

Hazardous Materials — Paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, propane tanks, and any chemical or flammable materials are prohibited. These require special disposal through your county’s hazardous waste program.

Tires — Most landfills won’t accept tires in a mixed-waste dumpster. If you have tires to dispose of, contact a tire recycler or your local waste authority for options.

Medical Waste — Needles, pharmaceuticals, and biohazard materials require specialized disposal and cannot go in a roll-off container.

When in Doubt, Ask

If you’re not sure whether something is accepted, give us a call before you toss it. We’d rather answer a quick question than deal with a contaminated load at the landfill — which can result in rejection fees that get passed along. One call avoids the hassle.
